Under this programme of excellence, launched by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) in 1997, the seven leading universities in Israel and the Weizmann Institute of Science are each eligible to submit two project proposals each year.
German researchers and scientists are not eligible to submit proposals themselves, but are included as project partners in the Israeli project proposal.
Purpose
The aim of this programme, which was inaugurated in 1997 by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), is to strengthen excellence in German-Israeli research cooperation (in all scientific disciplines) and to give support to innovative joint projects.
Eligibility Requirements
Under the DIP programme, German-Israeli projects are selected for funding in an annual process. In an internal process, the eight eligible Israeli institutions listed below call for the submission of draft proposals at the beginning of October every year and make a selection towards the end of the year. Each institution can then submit two completed proposals for joint research projects on 15 March of each year to the DFG. A subcommittee of the Joint Committee at the DFG – the committee for the German-Israeli Project Cooperation Programme – selects three or four projects from these proposals for funding. A final decision is taken in the December meeting of the Joint Committee.
The following institutions are eligible:
Scientists and researchers working in the German scientific community are eligible to take part in the individual projects as cooperation partners but they are not eligible to submit a proposal themselves. Scientists and researchers working at non-university institutions are not required to include cooperation with colleagues at a university.
Type and Extent of Funding
Research Grant
Staff and travel expenses, funds for scientific equipment and consumables. A total of €1,655,000 may be awarded. The funds are issued directly to the German and Israeli project leaders.
Funding Duration
As a rule, funding is provided for five years (interim report after 2.5 years).
Forms and Guidelines
The deadline for the submission of proposals to the DFG by the Research Authorities at the Israeli institutions is 15 March of any year.
