(02.12.22) From 7^th to 10^th November, 2022, the DFG office India together with Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), Government of India organized the First Indo-German Week of the Young Researcher at The Lalit Hotel, New Delhi. The event brought early to mid-career researchers from the two countries together to share their research interests and build long-term research partnerships. This year’s scientific topic was Chemistry.

The meeting was inaugurated by Dr. Akhilesh Gupta, Secretary, SERB in the presence of the two conveners Prof. Burkhard König, University of Regensburg, Germany and Prof. Vinod K Singh, IIT Kanpur as well as Dr. Franziska Langer, Director DFG Office India; Dr. Praveen Kumar Somasundaram, DST / SERB and Dr. Daniel Pursche, DFG.

With an intention to encourage wider networking and stronger partnerships among early career researchers, a group of 30 promising researchers, 15 each from Germany and India discussed and interacted closely over the 4 days on various contemporary topics in chemical sciences. In addition, panel discussions in form of Forum Publishing House and Industry were also organized to give an insight into the various aspects of publication, data-sharing, open-access and industry-academia cooperation. A half day extension event was organized at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Delhi where the participants got an opportunity to meet and interact with fellow chemists from Universities/institutions in and around Delhi as well as PhD students and post-doctoral fellows who presented their work in form of posters to the group.

In order to apprise the participants of the funding possibilities for potential future co-operations, representatives of the funding agencies such as SERB, IGSTC, DAAD and DFG gave an overview into their programmes to initiate and intensify international research collaboration. Speaking for DFG, Dr Daniel Pursche informed the participants on the various collaborative opportunities through DFG funding schemes.
