From 5 to 9 October 2024, the meeting at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago offered more than 10,000 scientific contributions, a large-scale poster session event and a trade fair section with 460 exhibitors, including “Neuroscience in Germany”.
The DFG and its marketing partners -- the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH) – represented Neuroscience in Germany at the generous joint booth together with the Bernstein Network for Computational Neuroscience, the Network of German Neuroscience Graduate Schools, the Max Planck School of Cognition, the DFG-funded Clusters of Excellence SyNergy Munich and NeuroCure , and the Neurocenters in Germany.
Over the four days of the fair, they advised numerous conference participants about research stays in Germany and research collaborations with Germany. Two insights are increasingly gaining ground here: Firstly, knowledge of German is no longer a mandatory requirement for a successful research stay in Germany. In this respect, Germany has long since become part of the so-called Anglosphere, where the majority of internationally mobile researchers (especially in the STEM subjects) are based. On the other hand, the fruits of significantly increased German investment in research and development are reflected not only in increased international competitiveness, but also in a corresponding improvement in perception abroad.
“Do good and talk about it” -- using this motto, the Neuroscience in Germany team has been attending specialist academic conferences for many years and has aroused growing interest. The “Neuroscience in Germany” booth is now actively sought out by many academic fair visitors. With this in mind, the Neuroscience in Germany team is looking forward to Neuroscience 2025 in San Diego.
