(31.01.14) The Russian government has held its fourth competition inviting top-flight international researchers to apply for a series of mega-grants. By October 2013, the competition had attracted a total of 503 proposals. Of the 42 winners, each of whom will receive RUR90 million (approximately €2 million) for their work at 23 different research institutions, six are from Germany.
(25.03.14) At the end of February, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) played host to a high-ranking delegation from its partner organisation RGNF, the Russian Foundation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, in Bonn. The Russian delegates met with the Executive Board and representatives of various divisions at the DFG's Head Office to deepen institutional relations between the two funding organisations.
(28.03.14) At the end of March 2014, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) and the Free University of Berlin organised the first Leibniz Lecture in St. Petersburg through the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH) in Moscow. Having already given a lecture in Moscow last year, this time Berlin-based mathematician Günter M. Ziegler spoke at the famous Steklov Institute in St. Petersburg.
(19.05.14) At the beginning of April the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) and other funding organisations and research institutions took part in an information trip to Belgorod. It was organised by the German House for Research and Innovation in Moscow (DWIH Moscow). The purpose of the visit to the regional capital, which is one hour's flight from Moscow, was to present funding programmes at the Belgorod State National Research University (BelSU) and the Belgorod State Technological University (BSTU).
(01.07.14) In late May, the German House for Science and Innovation (DWIH) in Moscow, represented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation), the Helmholtz Association (HGF) and the Free University of Berlin (FU Berlin), visited the region around Kaliningrad. The goal of the trip was to exchange information with rectors and researchers at the new Baltic Federal University (BFU) and the Technical University of Kaliningrad (KSTU), as well as the German Consul General.
(23.10.14) From 06 to 10 October 2014, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) organised the fourth “German-Russian Week of the Young Researcher” under the umbrella of the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH Moscow). Over 60 doctoral researchers, postdoctoral researchers and professors from Germany and Russia discussed their research approaches to various regional studies at St. Petersburg State University under the heading of “Global History”.
(24.11.14) In the autumn, the Russian Foundation for the Humanities (RGNF) held a special meeting of its Council to mark its 20th anniversary. The foundation was established in 1994 in accordance with the principles of academic self-governance as one of the first funding organisations for basic research in Russia. The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) congratulated its Russian partner organisation on its anniversary and also participated in the special meeting of the Council.
