(10.05.17) In early September 2016, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) organised the sixth German-Russian Week of the Young Researcher under the umbrella of the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH Moscow). Over 50 doctoral and postdoctoral researchers and professors from both countries came together at the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MGSU) for a week of discussion on the subject “Urban Studies: the City of the Future”. DFG Vice-President Professor Frank Allgöwer and Deputy Secretary General of the DAAD Ulrich Grothus said a few words of welcome to open the week. This year DFG Secretary General Dorothee Dzwonnek also took part in the week for the first time. She spoke about current challenges in research and higher education policy in Germany. This brochure can be downloaded from the DFG website.
The first “Week of the Young Researcher” took place in 2011 at the Federal University of Kazan on the topic of “Man and Energy”, with a second in 2012 at the Federal University of Yekaterinburg which took the subject of “Health and Society” as its theme. This was followed by the third Week of the Young Researcher in 2013 on the subject of “Aviation and Space” in Novosibirsk, a week on “Global History” in St. Petersburg in 2014 and another on “Discrete Geometry” in Moscow in 2015. The Young Researcher Weeks were set up as an initiative of the DAAD and DFG as part of the German-Russian Year of Science, Education and Innovation. Held once each year at varying locations in Russia, they aim to address current issues through international cooperation.
