April 2024 with the participation of German universities of applied sciences and Scottish universities. Under its initiative "Networking for Research – Universities of Applied Sciences and Researchers Worldwide (UDIF-HAW)", the DFG has been offering themed matchmaking events with international universities since 2022. The initiative seeks to reach out to universities of applied sciences (UAS) whose application-oriented research is highly regarded in an international context.
Approximately 90 researchers from German and Scottish universities got together on a virtual platform on 24 April 2024 to share their research priorities and ideas focused around four thematic areas. Intentionally interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary in nature, these thematic areas included Built Environment and Societal Issues, Environment and Ecosystems, Emerging Technologies, Human Health and Therapeutics.
The spectrum of topics ranged from microbiological and environmental aspects to issues of social and health policy. Involving approximately 70 project presentations, the purpose of the event was to identify project partners.
The contacts now established are to be consolidated on a subsequent delegation trip in autumn 2024. The delegation trip organised under the UDIF-HAW initiative offers the opportunity to assess the potential of joint project ideas in greater depth and also develop new collaborative projects.
Virtual matchmaking events under the UDIF-HAW initiative are one of several types of activity through which the DFG supports the initiation of research partnerships worldwide. UDIF-HAW is part of the DFG’s package of measures to support the further expansion of research at UAS.
Researchers are also invited to an information session on funding opportunities in an international context to be held on 8 May 2024.
