Since 2010, the “TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visits Programme” has enabled researchers in early career phases from African countries to visit a research institution in Germany.
For the call of 2024, 162 proposals were submitted, 50 of which were granted funding.
The fellowships are awarded to researchers from 18 African countries: Ethiopia, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Forty-six percent of the funded researchers are women.
In addition, a pilot call for proposals for the “TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visits Programme” for researchers from eleven selected countries in the MENA region took place for the first time in 2024.
Fifty-nine proposals were submitted under the programme, 25 of which were approved.
The fellowships are awarded to researchers from 9 countries: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Palestine (West Bank and Gaza Strip) and Tunisia. The proportion of female researchers here is 52%.
The next calls for proposals for the “TWAS-DFG Cooperation Visits Programme” for the countries of Africa and the MENA region are scheduled for spring 2025.
