Committee on Scientific Instrumentation
The Committee on Scientific Instrumentation was a subcommittee of the DFG’s Joint Committee. In this function, it evaluated the results of reviews of proposals for major instrumentation in the general research funding programmes of the DFG as well as from the “Forschungsgroßgeräte” (Major Research Instrumentation) and the “Großgeräte der Länder” (State Major Instrumentation) programmes with respect to technical, methodical and fundamental criteria.
For major instrumentation funded by the DFG and for proposals in the “Major Research Instrumentation” programme, the committee prepared funding recommendations for final decision by the DFG’s Joint Committee. For proposals in the “State Major Instrumentation” programme, it formulated final recommendations on instrumentation purchases on behalf of the states and universities. As part of the “Major Instrumentation in Research Buildings” programme underwritten by the federal government and the states, the Committee on Scientific Instrumentation made recommendations to the German Council of Science and Humanities regarding the procurement of equipment. It also issued statements on questions relating to the technical specifications and operation of scientific instrumentation.

Commission on IT Infrastructure
The Commission on IT Infrastructure was a subcommittee of the Joint Committee of the DFG and, in this function, evaluated the results of reviews of proposals for major instrumentation that contained IT systems from the general research funding programmes of the DFG as well as from the “Major Research Instrumentation" and the “State Major Instrumentation" programmes with respect to technical, methodical and fundamental criteria.
For the major instrumentation funded by the DFG and for the proposals in the “Major Research Instrumentation” programme, the commission made suggestions for the final decisions by the DFG’s Joint Committee. For proposals in the “State Major Instrumentation” programme, it formulated final recommendations on instrumentation purchases on behalf of the states and universities. As part of the “Major Instrumentation in Research Buildings” programme underwritten by the federal government and the states, the commission made recommendations to the German Council of Science and Humanities regarding the procurement of equipment. The commission addressed fundamental questions of IT equipment for universities and hospitals and made recommendations on overall IT concepts, IT installations and networking concepts.
