The 49 review boards for the 2020-2024 membership period commenced their duties in spring/summer 2020.
Almost 140,000 researchers were invited to participate in the 2019 review board election between 21st October and 18th November 2019. For the fourth time the election of review board members was held online, allowing researchers to cast their votes from anywhere in the world using a standard Internet connection and with no need for any special software. Around 37% of the electorate took part in the election.
Voters could choose between 1,659 candidates for the 632 seats. About 53,000 voters participated in the election (2015: about 48,000). The voter turnout was slightly higher than in the previous review board election in 2015 (x%). The proportion of female review board members also increased compared to the previous election from 23.5 % in 2015 to 32.1 % in 2019. 32.9 % of the candidates were women.
The final result of the 2019 review board election was ascertained in line with Section 9 No. 9 Clause 3 of the Election Regulations by a notice sent to the DFG Senate on 17th February 2020. It was published on the DFG website on 18th February 2020. For the newly elected review board members, work in these important DFG statutory bodies began with the inaugural sessions in spring/summer 2020. Each inaugural session signalled the end of the review boards’ 2016 to 2019 membership period.
