Research Software Infrastructures

New DFG Funding Programme Facilitates the Development of Infrastructures for Research Software

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) newly established the funding programme “Research Software Infrastructures”. Project funds can be acquired for the development, establishment or organisation of research software infrastructures. The DFG funds projects at a technical, organisational and individual level. On the one hand, the new funding programme paves the way for the improvement of the subject-specific handling of research software, and on the other hand, it supports the development of a community-based overall structure of research software infrastructures in Germany.

Proposals may be submitted by researchers and also by members of research information infrastructure facilities such as libraries, archives, museums, research data centres or computer and information centres and similar institutions, providing the institutions in question are non-profit organisations.

Proposals subject to a maximum funding period of three years can be submitted this year until 4 November 2024. The programme is unlimited; as of 2025, proposals can be submitted twice a year, i.e. every March and August (see link in the guidelines).
