Handling of Research Software in Funding Activities
DFG clarifies its approach to the use and (further) development of research software
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is emphasising the importance of research software to digital research practice, particularly in terms of enabling research, data use and the reproducibility of scientific results. By defining how research software is handled through the DFG’s funding activities, the objective is to further raise the visibility of creative and scientific development work, thereby providing a vital impetus for progress in research and the strengthening of collaborative research.
In view of the wide range of ways in which research software can be used and developed across the full range of scientific disciplines, the DFG highlights key aspects that are to be taken into con-sideration when planning research projects with regard to the development, archiving, findability and reuse of research software. The DFG also calls on scientific communities and research institu-tions to promote the adaptation of structural conditions with a view to supporting the (further) development and use of research software.
