Biochemist and physician in office since 2020 to face vote of General Assembly in Saarbrücken at the end of June
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) has now published the list of candidates for the election of its president at the organisation’s annual meeting at the end of June. The sole candidate for the post at the head of the largest research funding organisation and central self-governing body of the research community in Germany is the incumbent president, Professor Dr. Katja Becker, who is running for a second term.
The election list was drawn up by a search committee – made up of representatives of the Executive Committee, the Senate and the DFG’s member organisations – which was appointed by the DFG’s General Assembly at the 2022 annual meeting in Freiburg, acting in close consultation with the member organisations. According to the Rules of Procedure, the list is submitted to the General Assembly via the Executive Committee, the Senate and the Joint Committee of the DFG. The presidential election is on the agenda of the General Assembly on 28 June in connection with the 2023 DFG annual meeting in Saarbrücken.
The biochemist and physician Katja Becker was elected as the first female president of the DFG in Rostock in July 2019, and took office on 1 January 2020. If re-elected, her second four-year term will begin on 1 January 2024.
