Topics range from material synthesis and the development of climate-friendly concrete to drones as flying measurement platforms / Approximately €44 million for an initial period of three years
The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is establishing six new Priority Programmes (SPP) which are due to start in 2024. This was recently decided by the DFG Senate in Bonn. The six new networks were selected from 33 submitted initiatives and will receive a total of approximately €44 million for an initial period of three years. In addition, there will be a 22-percent programme allowance for indirect project-related costs.
The programmes that have now been approved cover a wide range of subjects from engineering to life sciences and natural sciences. Their topics range from material synthesis where living cells are incorporated in artificially produced materials to create non-living matter with bioprogrammable capabilities, to the development of climate-friendly concrete using alternative binding agents and renewable aggregates, and the use of drones as flying measurement platforms. The programmes each reflect the generic theme of the respective Priority Programme. In the coming months, the DFG will announce the networks individually before going on to review the incoming funding proposals in terms of scientific quality and their contribution to the overriding theme in each case.
The aim of Priority Programmes is to investigate the scientific foundations of particularly topical or emerging research areas. All programmes have a clear interdisciplinary orientation and use particularly innovative methods. Priority programmes are funded for six years.
