The DFG and its Israeli partner organisation, the Israel Science Foundation (ISF), have agreed to pursue their cooperation in greater depth. The two funding organisations recently concluded a memorandum of understanding to this effect. “In view of the current situation in Israel and the region, deepening research ties now takes on an added significance, also as a sign of solidarity”, emphasised DFG President Katja Becker.
In view of the current situation, the DFG is offering targeted support and relief measures to researchers involved in DFG-funded projects which are affected by the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel and the current situation in the region.
On 30 October 2023, Prof. David Harel, President of the Israel Academy of Science and Humanities, Prof. Yoseph A. Mekori, Chairman of the Planning and Budgeting Committee of Israel’s Council for Higher Education, and Prof. Daniel Zajfman, Chair of the DFG’s partner organisation Israel Science Foundation, addressed an open letter to the international scientific community.
On 12 October 2023, the DFG joined the other members of the Alliance of Science Organisations in Germany in a statement regarding the Hamas terror attacks on Israel and their consequences in the region.
