Do You Have a Good Idea Concerning the Sustainable Use of Scientific Instrumentation?

The DFG actively endeavours to anchor ecological sustainability considerations in its funding activities.

The Call for Ideas “Towards Resource-Efficient Major Instrumentation in Research issued in November 2023 aims to explore the possibilities of concrete funding opportunities dedicated to the sustainable use of instrumentation.

This Call for Ideas is by no means the only way researchers can put forward their own ideas, however. The DFG’s instrumentation-related funding portfolio includes the institutionalised option for researchers to contribute new ideas and proposals of their own.

How Else Can Ideas Be Submitted?

You can submit an idea informally by e-mail at any time. Your suggestion should include an explanation of the background situation as well as a description and rationale for your idea. We would also ask you to explain why it is not possible to make use of an existing DFG funding programme. It must be clear from your idea why you are addressing it to the DFG, and specifically to the Committee on Scientific Instrumentation and Information Technology (WGI Committee). If your suggestion meets these fundamental requirements, it will go before the WGI Committee, and you can definitely expect to receive feedback.

For an initial consultation regarding your ideas or needs, please get in touch with the person responsible for the relevant subject area or instrumentation type in the Scientific Instrumentation and Information Division, or else contact:
